Welcome to the On Tap series!
First of all, congratulations on the fact that it is Friday and you’re about to roll into a fun filled weekend. If you’re anything like me, after you’ve punched the clock for the last time this week and you‘re heading home to greet this summer weekend, you’re thinking of what activities will ensue. Will you have the motivation to complete that back yard or garage project? Will you chill by the pool to escape the heat? Will you tackle that classic car restoration you’ve been putting off until winter? Possibly head out in the woods to escape the chaos of city living? Maybe all of the above! Regardless of my choosing, I like to have an ice cold brew to make it even more enjoyable.
Follow us every Friday as we bring you some great summer brews to try out for the weekend! We want you to get every last drop out of summer!
This Friday I present to you the Leinenkugel BeerGarten Tart.
By: Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company – Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin USA
Style: Berliner Weisse
Color – It pours light gold or straw color.
Head – It has a small white head that fades quickly into lace around the glass.
Nose – At first smell, it is very similar to a Lager, that quintessential beery smell. It’s clean, yeasty, and just a little bit funky if you sniff in deep.
Taste – It hits the pallet a lot like a domestic Lager at first and then immediately goes into a tartness like beers I’ve had in the past that use lactobacillus or brettanomyces bacteria to sour the beer. There is a slight sweet tart candy flavor in there, more tart than sweet.
Finish – The finish leaves a tartness on the tongue for quite some time. Fading into a somewhat wheaty sweetness. (Leinenkugel says this is from the pale malts.)
Conclusion – I highly recommend this beer. For being mass produced by a larger company like Leinenkugel, it has great flavor and body. This is one of my go-to beers for working in the yard or hanging by the pool. It’s so refreshing and enjoyable to drink, and at 4.8% ABV you’re less likely to chop your leg off with your lawn mower or end up at the bottom of your pool. As always, everyone, please enjoy responsibly and have a great weekend!! PROST!
